Also when you just park here for a lunch break, they want you to pay a commune fee now. But they just ask extrajeros. So if you are Argentinian, you are fine 🤪

This road seems now to be the main road between Antofogasta and Antofalla. It is freshly prepared and in a very good condition. Normal gravel road. We drove it today with 2x 4WD cars but I think you don’t need it. The 2 passes have very steep sections up and down so be prepared with good breaks and a powerful vehicle. The pass near Antofogasta is about 4250 m high. It took us 3.5-4 hours, driving nice and slowly (with some pictures and drone shots) - you will easy make it in 3 hours.

Beautiful spot with amazing views on the Cono. The road to Tolar Grande is very good for Argentinia. At the moment no ripio, very straight. We saw some working lashings repairing the road, maybe that’s why.

Not bad for $15. Site 31 has good views but not so level in our camper van. Fire ring and picnic table. Site is near the bathroom but no one went in during our stay. And it didn’t smell so it was fine. There’s drinking water and a pavilion right near the site too but I’m not sure how safe it is. We filled a couple of water jugs from it and noticed some stuff floating around in the water. Shower house not far but we didn’t use it so can’t really say anything about that. The camp hosts are super friendly

We stayed here last night, no issues. Just park as far into the pull off as able. Ordinances in Oregon state at least 30ft from the middle of the road. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS.

Amazing spot with beautiful view of the valley and lots of stars.
We could not find the lower wild camp spots and found this big pull off from the road. 15 minutes drive from the viewpoint El Hornocal. There is no wind shelter but we did not have any wind luckily. The altitude is 3870 meters and ofcourse no cell reception. We arrived just before sun set and were the first ones at El Hornocal.

Arrived at 7 AM, worked through the day, stayed overnight. Left around 7 AM the following morning and had no problems. I did observe that there was no overnight parking sign by the pay station which issues 24 hour parking permits. I also noticed around 10 AM, someone from security posted a sign on the windows of another vehicle that had been parked overnight, for how many nights I don’t know. Seems like the fun may be over.

very nice spot, can see lots of waterfalls on rainy day. stayed on little heighth close to the entrance. be careful with the big grassy flat field, it might get very soft and muddy during rain so you might get stuck.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The restaurant staff is super nice and the food is really, really good & lots of vegetarian options! We ate here on the first evening and were allowed to stay for 2 nights for free.
The WiFi is fast and good, toilet and shower (cold) accessible 24 hours a day.
Good starting point for exploring Salento and the surrounding area.
The parking lot is not too big, and it gets tight if there are several restaurant guests with cars, so it's better to come early.

Great place , we are with a 4x4 ( not really required) and did not stay on the riverbank but followed the path to the left before hitting the water and parked in a flat grassy area a few 100 meters down the track. Perfect area

You can not be seen from the road or lookout post.

Only the house halfway up the mountain on other side of river had a few over the camp .

Nobody came.

Great spot for overnighting and lazy start in the morning .

We didn't trust the quite new looking shoulder to turn off, instead we chose the next boulder closer to the road. Just when you have passed it, there is a good place for a turn off. From here you can drive where ever you want I suppose.

Beautiful and quiet spot! Spent 2 nights here along with a couple of campers and vans. Thursday night was no problem for parking but Friday night was extremely busy! Lots of sporting events happening, started to slowly ease up after 9.

We stayed here for 3 nights. André, the owner, is extremely nice and speaks some English. The price is still 5000 CFA per night, importantly, with three meals a day included. André can also show you the surroundings of Sassandra and organize a trip to (maybe) see some hippos (25000 CFA). Manatees live in the river next to the campsite and can also be observed occasionally. It's also possible to swim in the river, to cool down during the day!

Good little hostel 8000/night (April, 2024). Okay wifi for those that need a good connection close to the router but in the rooms is not great. Shared kitchen and hot showers 24/7 - not great water pressure but definitely gets the job done!

I arrived from the park at 5pm by bicycle, and they let me camp overnight. They also have clean drinking water if you're passing by. They run off solar, but they might be able to help charge your phone if in need. Namibia MTC signal is stronger, but Vodacom signal is also available if you know where to stand (ask them).

They said it can be unsafe (crime) if you wild camp and are visible from the road, so be careful if you choose that.

Beware, this is the worst road we had in south America after traveling for more than 6 months in Argentina, Chile, Brasil and Paraguay.
Even if the road looks fine at the begining, it has not been designed to evacuate water so there are multiple giant mud puddles and no way to avoid them. We got stuck with our 4x4 and were lucky a pickup was passing by to help us. We also broke and lost our engine protection in some of the mud puddles.
If you go too slow you will get stuck and too fast you might damage something.

This in the only way to reach the border with Argentina, you should go south to avoid it or cross through Bolivia, but be aware that there are a lot of police controls afterwards for cars coming from Bolivia. The border control was nice and easy, they told us that the road should have been build a few years ago, they are still waiting for it.

Very nice and quiet place. We stopped at the end of the lake, there was nobody. Be careful the sand is soft when it is hot. Really nicer than Huacachina oasis. Very low Claro signal, to have 4G you have to climb on the dune.

Tried to get in here before the season started, but the road down to the site was too snowed in for us. Drove back down to little fort and stayed at Dunn Lake instead.
