Note, this is not the major route, have a look at maps.me and you’ll see the RP28 branches off a few km north. Thus the broken bridge is avoided.

You can park your camper alongside the beach before the workshop. We were allowed to drive around the reserve (we would have walked but extremely windy), lots of birds, including rheas, and amazing beaches, scenery is unique to this peninsula and spectacular. Matthias is a great host and all staff are really friendly and helpful, we sat with Matthias for dinner ($USD35 each), very interesting guy, has travelled down overland from the USA. A privilege to stay here for free.

The other spots around weren't attractive for tent camping, so we searched for another spot. We found this nice wild camping. Next to a little river and close to the street. This place is not visible from the street and easy accessible for any kind of vehicle. No garbage around and flat spots for tents. Little wind protection. Quiet at night.

Nice spot, next to a river. -22.95066, -65.42000

Unattractive for tent/motorcycle camping, not really hidden and to close to the street.

coming from the east along the south coast and driving further north, its gravel road with some rough patches at times but no problem

As said, beautiful rock formations that are well worth the visit. It is a bit windy and finding shelter is almost impossible as the wind comes from the west and the vast, open area towards the west offers no protection.

If you're heading south towards Fiambalá, the drive is absolutely stunning. High clearance is mandatory, 4x4 highly recommended as there are some soft patches of sand. Depending on the conditions, time of the year and vehicle/skill of driver, it could be possible without a 4x4.

If you're heading north towards Piedras Pomez, the drive is quite beautiful. High clearance is mandatory, 4x4 highly recommended as there are some soft patches of sand. Depending on the conditions, time of the year and vehicle/skill of driver, it could be possible without a 4x4.

If you're heading south towards Fiambalá, you are driving in a dry river bed. Judging from the other comments, the conditions seem to differ a lot. Another overlander who recommended this track to us said it took him two days in a Defender because the riverbed was so incredibly rough. When we drove it, it seemed like it had just been maintained (30.10.2018) and it took us less than 3 hours to get to Fiambalá from this point. It was one of the most beautiful/easy off-road driving, that we had done in South America so far with lots of knee deep river crossings that should not pose any problems to a regular 4x4. If you should be there anytime soon and given the conditions don't change, we can highly recommend this track.
NOTE: Check the conditions before you attempt this track, especially if it is raining. It was clearly visible that this river can carry a lot more water and then it would be an absolute nightmare to drive.

This Aussie has many years of expercience. He doesn’t do the job himself anymore but he has knowledgable mechanics working for him. Really friendly, takes his time and they did a good job. When we travelled to Vietnam without the car, we could leave the car at his house/workshop and doing some other job at the car while we were in Vietnam. The property is on a dirtroad paralel to the Mekong surrounded by a green fence. If he can’t help you, he has many other contacts in town. Fair price, given upfront. Uses original parts.

Amazing location with view on the valley and on the waterfall. Many monkeys around. We stayed 3 nights. They made a campfire for free in front of the nice view. The staff is almost invisible.

Beautifull and quiet Place between rocks and fields. In proximity of the little village. You only hear the Bells of the sheep, singing of the Mosque and a soft buzz in the background by the Mine.

Not an amazing site but it is hard to find wild camping in this area and we had a peaceful evening here. Probably not accessible in high water or smart place to stay after heavy rain up river.

This place is paradise!!! Tough to get in but we made it with our truck camper and I’m so glad we did! The toilets are bucket flush, not pit and the bathroom is clean. The family here is beyond kind and wonderful. We are paying $4 per person per night. Worth every penny. Possibly the best place we have stayed in 7 months of traveling. I feel very blessed to be here!

great views from the top of the hillside. plenty of parking although not many flat spots. deer monument and two religious/spiritual sites are nice. If you drive down the other side I think you get to the river. access is steep, in wet conditions, a 4x4 would be essential

Corruption as usual in Bolivia. We were asked to pull over, stamped a previous toll ticket and asked for 10 bol. I said we don’t have 10 bol. He said go to the car and get them. I said again: I don’t have money. And he let us go. So annoying! This is all over Bolívia, over and over again! But please, don’t give in. No bribes!
