4 lovely nights in this beautiful spot in Tupiza. Calm, quiet and secure. Very friendly host. Best food in town and lots of activities (tour to the salar, horse riding, shows,...) Ask for delicious homemade beer and fruit marmalade.

We came from north to south, we did all the road and we can asure that here starts the paved road to rivas. The road is not that bad, there are some moments which are not good but are doable.

I parked on this parking. Went in the hotel and asked if I could park my van here. They said if I wasn’t a hotel guest I should use the hotel valet parking under the hotel for like a dollar per day. Then I talked to the valet parking guy and the roof is too low (5’9) for my van. So he agreed to keep my car in the customer / workers parking where it was already parked. Very secure. I’m not sure if they allow you to sleep in the car here as I am staying with a local. But maybe you can sneak in your car when it’s dark. I don’t think it will be a big problem.

It’s private beach houses. They agreed that I could stay there 1 night, which I stretched to 2 nights. Quiet at the beach, parked next to a house, no one bothered me. Good place with my dog. The 2 nights was really the maximum I could stay .... I had to do a bit of effort to get in. But after the military escort, this was the only spot mentioned on i Overlander that seemed quiet.

Note that camping is definitely allowed here now, no problems. There are 3 or 4 camping spots in front of the hotel in a very pretty setting and is the best option for miles in all directions. The girl initially quoted us 1,500 MTS for the two of us but I explained what the going rate was in other camps and she spoke to the manager who agreed to 500 mts. There is no shower, electricity or wifi and there were no guests in the hotel so the restaurant was closed but it looked nice. The road to get here from the south is terrible - hope your suspension and patience is in good order.

Just to clarify, this is the N1 from the coast inland around the national park through Inchope to the Zambezi. The road is indeed terrible, we took 11 hours between Inchope and the river, about 300 kilometers, camping overnight in a little village. The alternatives are as bad or worse, you just need patience and hope your rig hangs together. The wet season must be much worse, if that's possible.

Camped here for the night on a Sunday. Quiet, and very friendly locals. Unlike others, we found this place to be filled to the brim with garbage. The beach was absolutely covered, as well as the areas surrounding the beach, which appeared to be used as both a toilet and garbage dump, and it was pretty smelly. However clean beaches are hard to find around here and we didn’t expect to find better so we stayed out of necessity. Monday morning someone began to make a half-hearted attempt at cleaning up but gave up part way through and still left the beach covered with garbage.

This is the road which seems to be frequently used to access the beach and the non accessible roadway. We suppose it’s the road which flip flop cowboy mentions on his beach camp spot.

The roadway here is gone and there is a trench / rock pile blocking access to pass. You can access the beach through one of the resorts or by the other star noted nearby or possibly another road in the area.

This was a great place to camp when taking the ferry from the Baja.

The sand was a non issue when we visited and I would suggest that if you are confident driving in sand (4x4, good tires and high clearance) don’t be discouraged by this place.

When we were here we saw a lot of people and no one seemed to care that we were here. there were:
- two tourists enjoying the beach who seemed to use the same access road as us
- eight or so ATV’s driving back and forth by the tide (possibly from a resort North of here)
- one Jeep with a trailer and many local men driving by the tide
- three tractors driving by the tide
- eight or so horses with a trailer accessed the beach before sunrise using the same access road as us.

We felt safe here.

This location was what appeared to be a closed toll both. We had intended to take the exit but it was barricaded. The through direction was also barricaded but there were people (roughly 50 young adults in street clothing) attending with hand written signs to pay 100MEX to pass.

The town streets were lined vendors selling non Americanized items. If you want local honey or some new cups this would be a good place to shop.

Nice spot and very quiet at night.
We parked beside the biggest tree and put the tent here.
A nice trek until the hill to enjoy the view and the sunset (45min, be careful with the altitud)
The night was clear with a super sky and stars.

For me every meter lower I can sleep counts so his spot is 200 meters down from the main road. Just before the bridge there is a almost flat spot. Very quiet, no traffic at night. Very good view on the canyon and river.

It seems they’ve got greedy for overlanders parking. They asked us 250 per person for parking. Dorm room was also 250 per person. We went to Moustache hostel instead. Amazing!
