Clean restrooms; quiet overnight parking for cars (busy for trucks). I advise parking near very start or very end for more flat parking spot.

Knowledgeable and resourceful mechanics. They have three lifts and electronic wheel alignment. It’s tight in there, but there is ample street parking to check the facilities. Staff is very accommodating.

was a little bit worried about the Fruit Control part but nothing, just a regular toll booth. We had to pay for our SUV plus Travel Trailer MXP 75.

Big hostel with proper facilities: clean kitchen, wifi, proper bathrooms, etc. They seem to arrange tours as well. we paid 20.000 for a matrimonial with shared bathroom. Had the place practically to our selves due to low season. One of the few hostels that seemed to still be open in Villarrica the day we were there. The room we had was a bit worn out but fine for a night or two.

One of many carwashes along the PanAm but felt like it's worth adding these guys because their prices are fair and their service quick and thorough. We paid Q20 for washing our Land Cruiser just on the outside, Q25 for washing and cleaning the interior of the drivers cab. Went here twice and received excellent service both times.
For price comparison: we drive a 40s series Land Cruiser with a cabin on the back. It's about the size of a big van.

We really liked this place. It is a great place to stay in Monteverde. It's about a 15 minute walk to downtown. There is electricity, power and a small kitchen area in addition to warm showers and clean bathrooms. It's a small soccer field surrounded by the forest. Some of the night tour guides (which we'd recommend booking with the owners of the campground) do walk across the soccer field but that didn't bother us. The owners are friendly.

New gas station. We asked if we could spend the night here and the atendant said it was Ok and ofered bathroom with shower.
Has water and we asked for wifi and got the key.
Also a 24 hour minimarket so you can buy your stuff.
The guys here where very gentle. Located at the left side of the road when you come from Honduras to Antigua. Good place to rest.

A bit busy before dusk, which you have to expect from this kind of of place. Cars coming in and out, music playing and of course some people like to rev their cars around. But it became super quiet once it got dark and I had a great night of sleep. Saw a few more pull outs and parkings when I left in the morning so you could probably find less crowded spots if you wish.

We wanted insurance mandatory in Chile, we have a brazilian car. They offered us all the mercosur countries (even the associates like chile, bolivia), 2 months for 2400 pesos. But firstly I asked 1 month and the price as 3000! So longer=cheaper. They needed photos of the car from the front and from the back. Payment by card. Open till 15:30.

Stayed one night. Pretty noisy with loud music late into the night. Could be an issue getting a good night rest here. Staff friendly and let me stay after buying gas.

quick update, all as stated before but rate is now 85 pula wifi was free and good but James said water is not potable. This is a great layover place to or from wherever you are going. and the fuel station out on the highway definitely has fuel.

At the base of a 100 mtr dune. Right next to the road, so no 4WD needed. It is not a pristine place as Iranians come here also, but it ain't a bad place to be.

You can go further to the next group of high dunes, where you'll be all alone, but the road is not good enough for 2WD as there are invisible soft spots. (We hit one and sank 20 cm deep, took us an hour to get out).

Amazing views, big clear area. 4x4 is recommended in winter. Trains can be loud. Full cellular service with out houses just at the bottom of the hill.

Asked us for camping or hotel reservations. We tried to explain in broken spanish that we always sleep in the car but he insisted... Eventually he let is go with a warning that next time we have to have a reservation. The aduana guy was nice though.

Very peaceful sleep here. We always ask the police first, so if someone does call about a strange van, they know we are here and won’t knock on the door at 2am. They said no problem. We also talked with a neighbor who was outside and they said no problem.

Pretty church on the inside, worth the trip even if not staying.

We stayed 2 days on the river front. Nice place, but the dogs of the owner and from guests use the grassy campsite for making their business. They try to clean the place every morning. So watch your steps. 380 R for the river side, 340 R for the rest.

Close to the other site but this one is hidden from the road. Misti is towering over you, great view. Take the little side road to get here.

The place is not completely at the right location. The southern fuel station doesn’t fill gas canisters (it seems to be forbidden) and the northern fuel station only fills 10 liters per canister for foreign price (they probably saw my car).

Bolivia to Argentina

I got here very late at 5pm. One of the guys of the Argentinian Aduana was VERY friendly and spoke some English. I had to get insurance. He told me where to go (the iOverlander place) but I didn’t get insurance because my car is too old. He let me into Argentina anyways (at 8pm, that’s when they close). He only had a look at my car (for 2 minutes) because the other guys were too lazy and he was curious about the car. He told me that European people are no drug traffickers so they wouldn’t be controlled properly. If you get your insurance prior arrival and are European (or American) this is a very easy border crossing.

I tried to get insurance for my 1970 VW Beetle. It is too old to be insured here.
If you have a younger car and there is a lane at the entrance just go inside to the left counter. The other people do something different here.

Nice place if you left the border late (like me) or want to get there early. Nothing special but quiet and next to the town.
