Wow... this is the most beautiful beach spot we have stayed in 1,5 years traveling in south america. We just couldn’t leave this place and stayed 9 nights. The bathroom is very basic but ok. There are watertaps (unfortunately not very clean water) and electricity to plug in. The people are very friendly and helpful. With wooden panels, they helped us to park on a shady spot in the sand with our 2wd van.

Super nice beach to spend the day at if you are in this town. Just south of the McDonald’s. Lots of people playing beach volleyball and they even invited us to play with them! Also a pier like cement structure to walk down and a doc you can swim to. Packed with locals all day and into the night!

Another turn off Lovell Canyon Road (to right, you will need to use coordinates) takes you to about 5 fire pits and very nice (clean) set of sites. Highly recommended!

We came in at dark. Stayed beside the pavement, but close to a "topes". After 11 p.m. it wasn't noisy. We bought so edrinks and stayed for free.
Night temperatures were good!

We parked here for 3 nights while hiking the Santa Cruz trek in reverse (started at the trailhead right beside the property). Super friendly little lady runs the house which also has a restaurant. She made us tea while we organized our backpacks. Felt very secure and safe! As previously mentioned it’s 10 sols per day to park there. Clean toilet and sink available, as well as outlets for charging.

For those curious about the trek, we really enjoyed hiking west to east. Each day was about 9 miles, plenty of campsites interspersed along the very clearly marked trail. So beautiful!

We paid a total of 50 sols to get back to our car from close to the end of the trail in Huaripampa (we were lucky there was a collectivo there waiting!) From Caraz we paid for a short ride in a Tuktuk and then hailed another collectivo to take us back up the hill to our car.

After 15 minutes walking we reached the beach and there was a sign including ropes that said ‘not continue’. Little enjoying that they didn’t mentioned it at the beginning.

Had one great night here with no issues. The next night the police came and said the park closes at 10 and there’s no camping. Seems like it’s just whoever is on park duty and if they feel like booting you.

I called ahead to verify with the store and they allow overnight RV parking in the back of the parking lot, farthest away from the store. I stayed for 1 night without a problem. Very quiet all night.

It was $20 pesos per hour, so a little steep for what you are getting but I guess that’s the going rate in SMA. Very quiet after 10PM but the public washrooms locked at around 11PM and didn’t open until 7AM.

Not sure if this still exists. The coordinates, alone, got me into a culdesac in a residential area. The link from here too me no where. The "Lancaster Soccer Field" search took me to a huge parking lot, but no dump site that I could see.

Dreamy Agua Azul! Had this on our agenda for a while.

Great to wake up to the falls and have it to yourself before tour buses and combis come!

No cell signal- WiFi for sale at local tiendas in the car park

ENJOY it’s beauty!

* Side note *
We FOR SURE crashed our DRONE here... It flew away and never came back. Super strange situation as it did not return to home point. Our time will forever be tainted, had trouble with connections in this areas could be our drone but the locals said that the same thing had happened to two other people RECENTLY. Be careful if you’re a pilot!! Someone found our drone all mangled and asked for $ for finding it...

This spot is amazing to see the baloons in the morning! They take of short before sunrise and fly over you. A must go if you are in Cappadocia. It's even to stand and the nights are quite + you have an amazing view. But you may have company in the morning. The 4x4 Tours take a short brake here for Pictures and stay arround 15min with 4 cars. So it might be a little loud. But every perfect spot has a weak point and for that amazing view it was no problem to us.

Wild camping overlooking the lake. Bring everything you need and take everything out (leave no trace). No water available. No wind protection. Perfect place to sleep before or after visiting the amazing and highly recommended proyecto Dino nearby (do the „be a paleontologist for one day“-tour).

From Argentina to Chile:

I've updated the coordinates to reflect the location of the new building. You will see the old buildings to your left; continue and follow the signs until you go up the ramp to the new location (where you will do everything). Be very patient though; we were there almost 2 hours because they didn't seem to know what to do with us.

1. You must fill out white form with your personal information for immigration; a white form for Coronavirus; and the BLUE form for your foreign vehicle. You may have to go to a different table to find the blue form, just remember that the white form is only for Argentinian/Chilean vehicles.

2. Be sure you cancel your Argentinian TIP at the window for Argentinian aduana. Do not leave without completing this step. Keep asking until someone knows where you're supposed to go. This step alone took us a long time because they kept saying we were "fine" and didn't "have to". We cancelled our TIP and took a picture of it with our cellphone.

3. You will NOT get an exit stamp for leaving Argentina. They now have an integrated system between Argentina and Chile so the computer will show you have left (but not your passport). You will only get a stamp entering Chile and a paper from PDI that you will need to keep.

4. They did a very thorough inspection of our van. They went inside with a flashlight to check everything. They kept our onion, tomato and lettuce.

The process itself is supposed to be easy. We unfortunately were there around 7:30pm and nobody knew what to do so it took us a lot longer than it should have.

We arrived at 9:00pm after crossing into Chile from Argentina. Friendly manager who let us park and use the bathroom for free. We had a lovely night's sleep here. Recommended.

Stayed here 4 nights as we had to fix something on the truck. Quite a bit of traffic during day time also on the beach. But quite at night. Braai, toilet, water tap behind the toilet building if you need to refill your tank.

Small camp at the beach of the secluded Bahia San Agustin. You find many nice amenities here like clean toilets, showers, wifi, kitchen, palapas, but no hookup. It is space for 4-5 campers and some tents. In the bay you find nice corrals and some tropical fish. Unfortunately the whole beach is covered with restaurants, it is quite busy on weekends but really quiet at night. The 12 km dirtroad from Mex 200 is bumpy in places but ok with every kind of vehicle.

Peaceful and great place to camp for the night. Got there on a Sunday afternoon, a few families enjoying the beach.
Asked a local that was working at a restaurant/hotel (as you enter the lot- turn left- the very end business)- he said it was fine to stay “tranquil “. “Move your van closer to our restaurant “.
Police drove through every hour 9-12pm. Fell asleep feeling safe.

Spent 2 nights here. One before driving up to the Vulcan, and another on the way back. This is a good place to rest, but use of toilets depend on the guard of the day. One night we were allowed, and the other not. Free. If you plan to drive up you need an authorization that you get in David (Ministério del Medio Ambiente). The car must be a really good 4x4 and you must be experienced. Is not easy and with lots of big loose rocks. Sharp switch backs in very steep terrain.

Great stop before or after crossing the border. Michel was great to talk to and very accommodating. Wonderful option for overlanders who want a rebirth through a warm shower, super clean facilities and overall best deal for camping. 100 córdobas camping (we are 2 persons) and 25 pp for warm shower. Great restaurant a short walk away for 100 per plate. The locally grown coffee Michel served was delicious. Feels more like a guesthouse than a hostel. Highly recommend.
