Rest area on the 101 Highway. Free. Space for around 10 cars and some longer rigs on the side. Clean toilets, picnic area with some shade and also pet area. Poor cell service. We stayed for one night on a Saturday, it was pretty busy. Might not be possible to get a spot if you pull over too late (there were some RVs and vans spending the night). We found this place better than the one marked on iOverlander a few kilometers further South, which is just a strip of land on the side of the Highway.

We originally were looking to camp up the road at the campsite next to the small lake, but found the area busy as well as having very little places to pitch a tent (that wasn’t already taken up by locals having a picnic).
We came back down the road and pulled off onto a dirt track that within a few metres flattens out next to the dried up river bed (middle of summer).
The ground was grassy and easy to put tent pegs in. Interesting variation in the colour of the earth in the hills leading up to the lake. Nice winding road. A couple locals around picnicking, but they left once the sun went down. A couple stray dogs around too, but they left us alone. All in all, a pretty good spot.

ALL TOURS FOR FREE! They offer the same tours than one the Brazilian side for free! You need to sign up for the special tour first online (the tour where u get to see the generator all inside the dam) or if you are lucky right in the office. Did not know that the special tour was offered here for free too so we "burned" the 83 reais per person. Thought this should be shared... www.itaipu.gov.py

Had a long chat with the ranger here in Spanish and he said they are cracking down on camping so no way to camp there. He also mentioned iOverlander he was nice and shared stories of all the excuses people tried but camping was a no go, even in dead of winter with no one around.
Ended up driving 80k back to the municipal camp site in the town on peninsular which was unlocked and free

perfect boondock site, right in the corner of the road and a little bit up. It is a flat area, also perfect for big rigs. no facilities but the view is stunning! also very much privacy because the road is about 10-15 meters away. We stayed with a 4WD with rooftop tent from Nomad America. Also, it can be a bit windy at night.

trail is unmarked. first opening on the right once the road becomes gravel. immediately after “Reel Livin DR”. small clearing in the woods. filled with overgrown grass but no boulders or logs. large RVs may not fit. no 4 wheel drive needed, just go slow. as always, leave no trace.

This is an OK spot in a river bed, there was some digging work for gravel going on when we stayed and we could not go as far up as the GPS indicated due we think to a change in the river course, river was muddy so not good for washing but this may be a temporary thing

Nice spots under large trees and ablutions with water! Tuckshop sells wide variety for the distant location, food items, alcohol and other nicknacks. Good to stay for 2 nights and relax after all that deep sand and watercrossing! Boatride was great but ask around at the other campsites to share the cost of P600 an hour for the boat.

Good place to spend the night. A parking near to the Rio. We were here at Saturday, bars and restaurants are open late, not really quiet. Otherwise we felt safe and the morning was quiet with the song of birds. There is a bar with toilette at back, open during the night.

The campsite is quite large. Lots of high trees giving plenty of shade. The owner is very nice and this site doesn't get as crowded as the other camps surrounding Faaker See. So it's easy to get a space even if you don't have a reservation.
There's a kiosk selling bread in the mornings and drinks etc. throughout the day.

It's a 15-20 minutes walk to the lake and you'll have access to it through Camping Anderwald.
