The Costa Rica Immigration and Aduana office are here. Very run down facilities, toilets «out of order», exit tax paying machine out of order. No electricity today so no computers work - so hours of waiting and veeeey long lines....

Just want to add - today I walked to the ferrydock at around 9.15 and asked when they would departure. Some of the staff said 10 am. So I came back with my motorbike at around 9.40 but then the ferry was full of vehicles and about to leave. I asked some of te staff if the last truck could reverse a bit so I could squeeze in between some of the other vehicles but got a mellow NO! But the truckdriver saw me and reversed off the ferry and let me squeeze in in front (great guy) - and off we went at around 9.45.

So my advice is to be here early, at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure time, maybe even one hour before is more secure.

Very quiet location on a good unpaved road, not far from the highway. Only 1 truck past us in the late afternoon.

Camp along west end wash road. Wide area. Probably not a good idea to go here in wet season. Otherwise nice places.

Nice view. The toilet for the camping was not working so he said to use the restaurant's and that they were all family.
Went to the bathroom, no toilet paper, I asked for it, they wanted to charge me so I called Oscar. He said it is that way so I could leave if I wanted. It did not feel right. Next day he apologized.

Very nice lady that rents small private rooms/shared bathroom in the upstairs floor of her house.
Basic but cheap at 10,000
Room for one motorbike in her garage if she clears the clutter.

Good place, it’s very close to the road (very very close). It’s pretty small too but perfect for one night before heading to Mont Tremblant. There’s no toilet, no picnic table...

Arrived at the gate at 5:30pm and the gate was closed, but not locked. Opened the gate and let myself in. Found the owner inside (wearing a huge cowboy hat) and he asked $5 for one person, tent camping, with motorcycle.

Large, covered common seating area with lots of hammocks.

Great location.

Very clean bathrooms.

Parking lot is used by the local 30+ passenger minibuses every night, so any size rig will fit.

Excellent, very friendly hostel, central location. Very good food & fruit shop 100 metres. Room for large rig on drive, outside garage, plus two smaller rigs. Electric hook up. Recommend a few days here!

You can enter with your vehicle (gate at the backyard) and there is space for a rooftop. You stay in the backyard next to the bandas. Nothing beautiful but OK for a night. After some discussion they opened a banda for shower/toilet.

Restaurant surprisingly good and cheap.

Please note there are no ferry or bridge over Zambezi at Lumbala. You can ask at the village they can show you a water crossing but we turned back the Zambezi was too high.

our experience at this border: so when I crossed the border with a camper van, there was no line and only a one minute check of our car and they asked where we are heading to, they didnt ask for any document. I asked a security person right after this check point where to get a stamp for my passport and the tourist card and they said they dont have it here and I would have to go to the airport to get one.
NOTE: after our crossing I read that you get the stamp still on the American side, I apparently missed that building and crossed without getting one. if you encounter this problem do as follows: I drove to the airport which is very close (follow signs towards aeropuerto, its the aeropuerto abelardo L. rodriguez), parked right in front of it on the shoulder where many cars were parked (didnt want to pay the airport parking) and went in. one of us waited in the car and I still got the stamps and tourist cards for both of us. there was no waiting line. we went back to the banjercito office at the border, which is on the iOverlander app and got our banjercito (TIP). no waiting line aswell.

I just wrote this post because although we read many posts about the border crossing, its not really self explainatory once you get there.

maybe helpful: there are many cheap copy shops near the banjercito office. we went to the one right next to it and the price for the copies was our choice.

Nice place to see, pool is nice and the bar and facilities at the pool are good.
They don’t have electricity at the campsite which is 2km away from the reception but they happy to charge your stuff. Make sure you double check if they really do it cause after two night wild camping we needed some things charged but after 4 hours in the pool/bar nothing was charged.
They also say WiFi is 300mb per day but that’s not working well either.
Campsite is clean and you got your own braai and pick nick table. Very small sites though

Good help for motor home. They don't touch the car part (no oil change for exemple) but can do anything on the home part. They checked for us little matters with fridge, boiler and other tips. 2 guys working for 4 hours and we paid 7000 pesos in total.

Good spots for tents. Some grass and some wooden platforms with shelter. Friendly owner. Also a shelter for cooking and charging and 3 hot tubs, but we didn't use them. At the street so not much nature but still quiet in the night. 4000 p.p

Car insurance, small building on the main road. Quick and easy, took us 5 mins. Bring your pasport, licence and car documents. We paid 3 dollars for 1 month & 2 drivers for our Land Rover. One year is 10 dollars.

Beautiful isolated and quiet place just off the main road with shady trees at the river bed a few kilometers north of Coen. The river is dry at the end of the dry season. Good Telstra 4G reception. Free, no facilities. Access track may be a bit tight for big rigs.

We did not stay here, but passed on our way from Kalpowar Crossing. At the end of the rainy season the sites are dusty without shadow from trees. We didn't see any water in the river. The sites are directly at the road in the dust from passing traffic. Kalpowar Crossing 20 km southeast is a much nicer choice.

One of the two general stores in Coen; probably one of the last decent stores until Bamaca when heading north. Sells fuel and has an ATM. Apparently also a possibility to camp (alternative camping options across the street).

Lake Isabella is currently dry. Quite a miserable view. Dam repairs are underway. Stay at Kern River, Keysville is close by and also free.
