Beautiful place over looking the lake and not far from the Great Zimbabwe Monument. Very reasonable price food. Had a chips and salad costs 4 dollars only. Definitely worth a visit here!

Steps as described are all accurate. The last 4.5 miles of Nicaragua was a massive line of trucks. Get into the left lane and drive past all of them. Total time to exit the country was just over an hour, 1 hour 5 minutes.

Great little spot. Visible from the road but there is not much traffic. We saw one car pass. Clear skies for stargazing. Fantastic sunset

Going Peru to Chile, the Peruvian officials told us to buy the "relacion de pasajeros" form from the lunchlady in the canteen next to the casino. This seems weird because it's an official document and you will need a lot of stamps on it from both sides. The lunchlady told us she would accept dollars for the form. We gave her $20 and she only gave us change in pesos for $10. When we realized this, she said, "well your $20 bill is so old I'm doing YOU a favor". Haha! Watch your money.

The prices we were offered here to insure our camioneta/furgoneta in Chile were $25 USD for 1 week, $30 for 1 month and $40 for 6 months.

Really quiet night here. Police were nice. This little center of Tacna is really cute. It will be a nice last night here for you if you're leveling Peru. Supposedly public Wifi is available in the square, but we "couldn't connect", as usual.

Good spot, but for cars only. Lots of low hanging braches that make it impossible even for a van. Stayed across the street before the gate to Tall Trees road instead, no issues, and no signs, but it is national park property, so not sure it's allowed.

Very basic pull off the road leading to the state park. More or less in a (someones?) field, come late leave early. A "stealthy" sleeper 4x4 was used. Better than the bright ass loud wal-mart parking lot for sure, yet still some traffic till 11:30.

Road update: beautiful perfect pavement on both sides of the tunnel. Crews actively out patching the occasional pothole. Amazing views and such a great drive on the new road!

We originally went to Autostar, Mercedes Benz Trucks which is nearby. After spending 3 nights on their carpark they said that they couldn't help us as the had no spare parts which would have to come from Germany.
Mercedes suggested we came here so we did. They started working on almost immediately.
They identified both an oil and a diesel leak. They rectified the diesel and after a test drive they let the engine cool down to work on the cylinder head which had been replaced in San José, Costa Rica.
Following day we test drove again and oil leak rectified too. No spare parts needed, especially from Germany.
These guys seem to know their business. Heard the sound of torque wrenches being used which I didn't hear in Costa Rica.

Rolled in after dark, there were two other vans in the pull in spaces. Pretty quiet all night, no disturbances, lots of buses coming by late into the night. This is probably the quietest place in San Francisco.

it's a restaurant but also offers some rooms for overlanders especially for bicycle tourist getting from Ciudad constitucion to Loreto or other way around. In addition he offers some cheap good basic foods and breakfast. But the rooms have no mattress and just shower and toilet without a separate tap. So be prepared to get really basic one for 200 pesos the night and have a mattress with you. No electricity in the rooms as well.

We stayed 2 nights and for us it was the perfect spot to prepare our car for the shipping back home. Water, power and a roof at every picnic/bbq area - everything we needed. Very relaxing and quiet - thanks a lot for sharing!

Good place to spend the night. No shade or shelter from wind. Water from river is very murky, we used it just for washing dishes. Locals told us it's because of deice season.
Can access through ramp 500m south or north. OK for bicycles, but check before entering with 2WD.

This is not a camping place. it's just where the ripio road starts, going North for about 100km, and not 40km as the sign says.
It's ok for the first 35km going North, than it gets really bad.
almost no water in the whole way otherwise the murky river or the Defunta Correa sanctuaries.

Shortcut to San Andres Itzapa. High clearance and 4x4 needed in some places, rutted and probably very slippery when it rains. Road winds through corn fields, you'll meet farmers with horses.

very nice couple that let us pull into the back of their property to ready our vehicle for shipping. we rented a room for staging, you will need to rent a room to park here. they gave us a deal since we were not sleeping in the room. It was 30,000 CPL per night. kitchen, living area and two bedrooms, very nice and HOT showers. The owners Elana and Nelson were the sweetest people and their dog Mauta (female) was adorable. even if you are not shipping it's worth a stop. the beach is just down the next road. happy trails!

PS these coordinates are a little south of the property but three or four houses.

70 kms from this point heading nort it's mostly gravel road in decent shape. some sections which clearly get bad when it rains so use caution for us we could easily drive 80 km/hr in our van.
