Lago sandoval is definitely the best place to see wildlife. as the others said you can find giant otters, back caiman, monkeys, birds, etc. here and all is very quiet, because there are no motorboats allowed in the lake. we spend two days there with our very good guide. he knows everything about Flora and fauna plus has a very good eye for spotting the animals. you can contact Mario on whats app: 982714454 or email: [email protected]. he speaks very good englisch.

Cosy family-run hostel in Zumbahua, bit rough around the edges but it’s clean and warm. Space for bicycles inside. $7 per person which is great value - rooms for 2-6 people, hot shower (shared bathrooms), great well equipped kitchen (oven and blender!!), WiFi, sitting room with fire and free tea. Friendly owners who will go out of their way to help. Opposite the main plaza which has an amazing Saturday market too. We had a relaxing few days here and it felt like home by the time we left!

About 6 private campsites, a nice enough place, but be warned... This is a designated duck hunting spot and gunshots rang through the air starting at 6am (dawn) and contined heavily for a couple hours. Thought I might need a high vis vest for making coffee in the morning but all was fine :)

So awesome! Not quite waterfalls this time of the year but still deep enough to swim and cool off. Great spot to camp as well! A highlight for sure!

Great spot to stay. Secure parking lot below the hotel, although only a couple level spots. We paid $100Q/person for one night of camping, sauna access (they give you one room you get to yourselves), and breakfast. $75Q/person without breakfast but it was worth it in our opinion - coffee, juice, kinda oatmeal/sweet milk thing, plus a full plate breakfast option (6 to choose from). The restaurant was somewhat expensive for dinner so maybe consider cooking your own food to save money, but otherwise the food was good (recommend the beef stew). The sauna was relaxing - the room has the sauna and a cold shower. Towels available to rent for $5Q each. Some road noise from trucks coming up the hill but not too bad.

Overall would recommend this spot! They are familiar with iOverlander so it was easy to check in.

Beautiful meadow next to a river, indeed. Large tree for shade, lots of space in the sun.

Coming from the South (from the road to Thermal de Tolhuaca from Ruta 5), the descent to the river is quite steep and may not be suitable for RVs.

There is a inhabited house across the river.

Great place for a day of rest!

This Place is really wonderfull. There are many spots to park and sleep. There are a few fishermen, but just before sunset you are alone. Use iOverlander "star" point for a good Streets/access. No Problem with 2WD.

What an amazing waterhole especially in the evening. 10 giraffes at a time, 3 rhinos, jackals and lions.
The Campground itself is not very nice but we stayed at the waterhole almost the whole time ;) A lot of benches around where everyone finds a place to sit.
Even during the day there were always animals. Amazing!
We‘ve seen also lions in the surrounding and incredibe many animals especially at the waterhole Salvadora. Hundreds of zebras, gnus and springboks.

Beautiful view from the top, short but quite steep hike. Take plenty of warm clothes, we had no wind at the start and very little wind at the end but it was crazy windy on the top.
