Amazing place ! And very quiet.
Accessible for big RV (30Ft or more), no need for 4WD or high clearance.

As described, very tranquilo place with gruta and a small pool at the bottom you can swim in. Walking distance to very nice cenote (see separate entry just to the east).

Very friendly owner who took us on afternoon moto-taxi tour of other nearby cenotes.

Two very nice swimming pools, one shallow for wading with deeper soaking area.

Was listed by others as big rig friendly....I would dispute that as some low hanging trees and not a huge space between spots. yes, you might be able to get a bigger rig in but it would take up the entire entry which everyone uses, and there's no pull through or turnaround inside the gate.

We were not allowed to get to the ruins with our dogs, the guards at the second entrance were strong on this point, even when we said they would stay in the car.
They said something about leaving them at the restaurant next to the campground up the road, but we didn’t check this option out.

Just wanted to add that the sendero (path) is a 2km loop in order to see the petrified trees. Well worth it

Small original place in the mountains - no tourists there and no hygienic standards as well ;-) but the cheese is best I got after one month in Ecuador! If you don't have fear about your health you can eat there (only one plate, no choices) with love and peace.

There is a reason why we are able to free camp. Most of us are quiet and don't cause a disturbance. Unlike the rave that is happening right now. This site may not be available much longer. A 30 plus foot long bus traveling with a beat up Class C and a van are making more noise that any night club I have ever heard. This is why free camping is frowned on and RV travelers are pushed into pay sites where there are rules. The family that lives nearby must be thrilled.

We came at 16.15, asked about overnight parking/stay..... were bluntly refused even with clear expression of our wishes to visit the ruins next morning.

We checked a few other places which looked promising on the maps (no luck). So, we spent a night at Pemex, just a few kilometers down the road (separate entry at iO database).

Regular Pemex station......
* Reasonably leveled space in the back left corner.
* WC / 5 pesos
* 2 bars on Telcel

We did stay one night, which was surprisingly quiet.

We came to know this farm when we were in the coffee park, we had a mechanical problem and we had to stay three more nights, Mario helped us by getting a good mechanic at home who took the pieces and solved the problem. It costs $ 50,000 Colombian per night per vehicle, it is a safe place to park everything closed, it has a jacuzzi, a shower, a place to wash dishes, green spaces and a path, to play cards and ping-pong. Super recommended to go through the coffee axis. We were very nice 6 days here,

A very peaceful, beautiful spot in the desert. There is a site for larger rigs with showers but we are a small rig with a pop-up roof so we decided to stay on the tent camping site. There were flushing toilets, water, fire pits, bbq and picnic tables. We went to the larger site for showers. 22USD. Electric is available at the larger site. You can also buy firewood at the Nature Centre or from the camp host.

if you are looking for a beautiful and quiet spot to camp near Queenstown you should head for this one. located on a lake (swimming), huge area for campervans and tents - you sure find a quet spot! gravel road in good condition even if 1 lane only at places.
got pit toilets, kitchen shelter, running water. 13nzd pp pn in honesty box. (Expensive for DOC buuut it is QUEENSTOWN and the view is amazing!)

Moke Lake DOC Campground -44.99864, 168.57338

follow the dirt road (we did it in a 2WD in dry conditions no big deal) until the VERY end (past the farm - close the gates behind if necessary!) - there is a tiny DOC "parking" where you can leave your car (guess sleeping there inside your van would be possible as well...) - grab your camping gear and walk the trail for less than 1km. After the little downhill turn right onto the grass and search your way down to the river (before the big bend) - there is a small beach (with grass to put the tent) covered with trees, a beautiful spot for the night, out of view, calm except for wild river.
Do NOT use during rain season!
Alternative: hike up to the first DOC hut in the mountains, a good place to stay as well!
