Good place to stay for the night! Right next to the beach, quiet & safe. You can even have internet from the bar next to it. We stayed here in june and the bar wasn't open so no noise.

visitor parking of alamut castle (of the assassins), where the little hike to the castle starts. there is shady spots where you can park on gravel park lot. few dogs around but other than that quiet. public toilets are well looked after. alternatively the owner of the golestan hotel next to the parking offered to camp in their yard, big old trees and big garden. also good to pitch a tent I assume. the hotel itself is pretty run down but the yard is beautiful.

We sort of had to go here.. not the worst mechanic, they fixed our radiator problem. They did try to rip us of tho. So still not recommended.

Tiny spot right at the sea. Short hike to a shipwreck and picnic tables. Fantastic coastal scenery. Access via a very narrow dirt track. Wind protected tent camping possible in nearby quarry, but only accessible on foot. Unfortunately there is a rotting whale nearby, very bad smells in 2018.

Recreation area. The first about 2km from the highway there are no camp places, thereafter ir starts and there are plenty of turnouts where one can stay for the night. There are trees, so some places can offer some shade.

You know, I’m a big fan of the out of sight out of mind adventure type of thing. Most good fun and beautiful places are off limits or questionable at best. I have jumped in one night I was really sweaty and had libation confidence. Was the coldest water I ever felt but in a pinch and super quick who’s gonna say any better. Plus there isn’t a sign that says no.

An amazing place to stay. 15,000 to camp in a wonderful secluded area of Colombia. Google maps does not have the road to the farm listed, but getting there was not difficult at all, it was a beautiful ride. The hosts are such good people, and Alejandro speaks perfect English. He showed us his farm in detail, and we got hands on with the cocoa process. An awesome stop, highly recommended.

The farm has a perfect view of one of Colombia's most incredible natural spectacles: the jagged peaks of Funa and Tena. Ask Alejandro to tell you the indigenous legend about these towering monoliths, and you also get a picture perfect drive by as you head to the farm along a cliff-side road.

This area is so green and lush, it almost seems fateful that it is emerald mining country, and supposedly the mountains are full of them. But Alejandra doesn't want to mine through the mountains on his land searching for emeralds. Instead he wants to sustainably preserve the virgin land in its natural state by growing organic cacao, a plant that is native to the region, and he employs the local people as farm hands. It's a really inspirational endeavor, one that brings prosperity to the local community while bringing chocolate to this world. Couldn't be better.

Walmart parking lot right off the main road. Lots of amenities nearby like gas, Tim Hortons, bathrooms in stores during business hours. Lots of other campers. Traffic noise and some kids meeting up with their cars to do burnouts but they weren’t causing trouble. It was nice and quiet after midnight.

Hmmm, yes. Everything was booked out in and around Astoria so we decided to give it a try. Far overpriced but standard at a KOA, with all its kids fun activities. Pancakes for breakfast included in price, everything very clean and indoor/outdoor pool, however the promised WiFi is rather slow and does only reach half of the spots. Book online to get 5% discount and off season to avoid resort fee. Tent village is nicely arranged with shelter, private spots and electricity, but you can only park in front of your lot, not on the lot itself. Not perfect if you have a rooftop tent. Showers are ok, but with low water pressure.

Had one night here on the way to Machu Picchu and wasnt too impressed. Yes the owner were friendly, and they do have safe parking. But no dinner and very ordinary breakfast that I had to ask for, nobody offered it. Wifi was patchy and didnt work in my room most of the time. My shower was cold, no window in the bathroom, just a big hole straight through the concrete wall so that a lot of mosqitoes came in that way. But for only 30 soles I guess it was kinda ok still.

An ok hostel near the bus station. We paid 4500CLP per person per night in a "4-bed dorm room" and 17000CLP for a private double room.
I say "dorm room" because it was actually a room with 2 single beds and 1 double bed right in the middle..... luckily the couple sleeping in the double bed were friendly and didn't mind "sharing their room" with us. When they left we moved into a double room. Maybe the other dorms are "proper dorms", I can't say.
Carlos, the receptionist guy, was very friendly and helpful and spoke great English.

Free campspot on Arawana Road on the Crownland after the cattleguard a bit further on the left. Fire rings and leveled parking in the woods with some nice views. Maybee 1km or two on the dirt road so for most cars or rigs.Too tight for any trailer. Always lots of Québecors. **Watch out for bears don't leave food outside at night they come sometimes.**

This is actually Yodgor Guest House. spacious parking, small shop in the garden. They make dinner for you if you ask. They even had beer. Very friendly, Yodgor speaks english. We paid 20 TJS per night for sleeping in our car, not using their shower. Dinner was not really good, plov with 3 pieces of chewy meat.

We were denied entry into Cameroon today at Ekok crossing. They said it is too dangerous and the won’t allow tourists to cross.

We were there about 2 hours. We spoke with someone from the army who said that he was the one who gave the order to the consulates and embassies to stop issuing visas to overlanders. Everyone was extremely deferential to him so I think he was important. He said the situation is very bad. We went over the map with him to
Investigate alternatives. Importantly he said the Bissaula crossing is more dangerous than Ekok and NOT to take it. He said we could crossing near Gembu Nigeria which goes into the central region of Cameroon and said it would be safe.

Thankfully the Nigeria side let us go over and talk with Cameroon before stamping us out.

We rode down to Calabar and got a quote to take a ferry to Doulala for 350 USD each for our passage and motorbike. For a car the price is 1,000,000 cfa or about 1800 USD.

For us it’s not worth the risk to try up north. Also it’s been raining so much and I don’t want to ride in the muddy mountain roads haha.

Good luck to all.

I’ll definitely echo the comments about rednecks, but everyone was friendly. If you go up Forest Rd 71 further there are lots of dispersed sites that are much quieter, but have no services. Beautiful drive and good sites. The site had some garbage and broken glass though, I think people use it as a party spot sometimes.
