Fabulous waterhole! However, you must have enough time to be patient. We saw elephants up close, really close. Buffalo, gorgeous kudu bulls and much more. We spent 2 nights and didn’t go anywhere just enjoyed visiting the blind and climbing up the platform at different times of the day. We had no worries walking back from blind after dark (camp has no fence.) Nice hot showers at about 4:30pm. Still $15pppn.

The description is correct though in the off season there didn’t seem to be anyone to pay and the shower was closed - maybe open at the weekend. Dogs are allowed and there is a great 1.3km trail loop to walk.

Iconic location for anyone into the whole Area 51 thing. It’s 40 miles of good road from the Hwy, past the “black mail box” and onto the extraterrestrial highway. We parked for free in a little area to the side of the inn, with trees for shade and a fire pit, toilets inside from 8-10 and porta toilets outside.
The place is a little run down and shabby which kind of adds to the appeal.
Sue and her sister behind the bar are both lovely and will fill your coffee mug all day for 2 dollars. Food is usual burgers etc. Beer is very cold 😊👍
Perfect for a night free camping and watching the skies, “they are out there”👽

Fantastic place in the sand next to the river. Very quiet, completely hidden. You can bath in the river, swimming is no option due to strong current.

Wonderful location and setting. overland facilities. We enjoyed the hospitality of Johan and Martina. Two special people who made their dream come true! Meet other overlanders here, chat around the campfire and under the stars.. ..and if you are out of stories.....Martina and Johan have hot some left! Paid 330 for two and a campervan....and a litre of icecold beer! Don't miss this place!!

Torotoro to Sucre: Not possible to go this route. The road from Torotoro was quite nice but the bridge over the San Pedro river ended in rubble. No chance of getting through with any vehcile. No signs or warnings ahead of time. No workers around... looks like it will be a long time before it's open.

Nice place for a night on the beach. Be careful many places has a sign, but some directly on the street doesn't have. A local said we are allowed to stay here but should move every night. In case police knock on ur door, just move. Anyway, we had a good night and morning here without problems (6pm -10am). Didn't have any open wifi here btw.

The place in fact is nice and we can agree the informations Traveller wrote.
But, as Manager Mario told us, people like us in camper are not welcome. We asked why - he couldn’t give a satisfying answer. Maybe people are using electricity or water.
After a long discussion he reduced the first called price from 150 Pesos pp to 100 because we are not plugged in. We cannot really recommend this place.

Still a very good place, safe and not too noisy. This was the best option for us. Paid R$ 8.-/day for parking.
There is a coin toilet nearby, it was always open, if not it's R$ 1.-. You can also use the toilets of the cablecar station, open from 8.00am-18.00pm. Also see our tip, we created a seperate place nearby, but the text you got here again.

Rio in 2 days, thats how we did...:
Arriving 16.00 at the parking Sugar Loaf, going directly up the "Pan the Azucar" with the cablecar. Next morning you leave by taxi for R$ 16.- to the Copacabana Beach, from there you take the metro nearby, changing at Botafogo and then strait to Maracana, to see the famous stadium. Entry is R$ 50.- pp. Back with the metro to Largo Do Machada. From there you book the Van-Tour with Paineiras Corcovado to the Cristo Redentor for R$ 61.- pp. Coming back to the Largo Do Machado you got many restaurants around for having dinner... Back with the taxi to your parking at Sugar Loaf for R$ 20.-... Enjoy!

We saw some signs on the road and out of curiosity we drove all the way up this location. There is some excavation going on. Not sure what's inside as the scaffolding didn't look so safe at all, so we didn't venture inside the hole.
There is one Dagestan shepherd who lives there in the summer in his caravan.
2 days later, we found out that his name is Mr Labazan and he is the father of a family we stayed with in Aslanta village!
