While a beautiful spot, it is in the national park and boondocking is not allowed. You will get a ticket of up to $150 if caught. We had a nice park ranger who let us off with a smaller fine. Don't overnight here.

Oh this s a nice place!

From the road you only see the big dirt parking lot, no trees, nothing special. But you have to go and fallow the dirt road down the river. There are about 12 more sites available just by the river and 4 others in the forest.

Many locals know this place. There was still some site available.

Sites are far from each other and with the sound of the river we felt alone.

You bearly ear the road and train if you have a spot close to the river.

There was 3 fifthwheel who manage to get down there, but it is limit for big rigs. Or maybe the big rigs came from the forth steel station road in town?!

Cellular signal is weak but ok with bell/vigine provider.

2 Belgian Passports - 1th extention

We got our 30 day visa extention here, allthough it took us 2 days.

Day 1: we got confirmation for 30 days pretty quick but they could not deliver it the same day. First they told us it would take 2 days, we compromised on the next day. The paperrun took us 1h45, it is a mess and you just have to ask a lot where you have to be for the next step.

Day 2: We went back at 9am as agreed the previous day. However, our case was not ready and they gave us some bullshit excuses, 'system error'. They told us to wait until 1pm. We argued and tried to get priority on our case but we just had to wait. After 2h30 it was ready.

So 2 days and each time roughly 2 hours which is maybe not bad but the process is kind of a mess and takes a lot patience.

Also, if you have time left on your visa they will not let you extent here but refer you to the next city you will visit.

The gate was closed but we walked inside and found the owner. They allow camping even if the restaurant is closed. Very friendly! $15USD for the van, 2 people. Clean facilities! No WiFi available, at least not today, but they were honest about this. We used this time to relax and disconnect. :) Lots of animals to see, you'll camp next to the river, and the food was delicious. It was so nice of them to cook for us even though they were closed for the day! If you are around the area, I'd recommend staying here! You will be happy you did.

FREE. Small little museum with ceramics and posters with local history. Friendly and welcoming staff. Many rocks with petroglyphs outside to see as well. If you've stopped at the Mirador, might as well come here; it is only 3 minutes away. Recommended!

Really nice place to rest after cycling through the mountains and desert to get here. It's only 15 Soles per night and it's clean. I'm going to stay two nights. They have no problem with cyclists putting their bikes in the room.

WoW! This is the place to be in between Guatape and El Peñol ...awesome hosts, charming old style finca with private rooms or dorm beds or overland parking! Fantastic lake view with boat tours or paddle boarding available. Food/beers available or cook yourself.
Pet friendly, the entire place including their dogs feel like family.
SupersiZe Overlanders won’t fit but everything else is fine, gate width 10’ no height restriction but parking allowing for turn around allows for about 3 rigs.
Cheap bus rides to town on the newly paved road. Great place and they do have other fincas/spaces if this doesn’t work for ya.

It's a bit expensive. The Pisco Sour is delicious... but they deceive you by selling them as 1/2 liter or 1 liter jars... the 1/2 liter has 4 shots of pisco and the 1 liter has 8 shots. As a cyclist... I want my drinks strong... and this 1/2 liter is basically 1 normal drink at any Peruvian bar. I was dissatisfied paying 16 Soles for this drink. It sounds like a lot... a 1/2 liter... BUT 80% of the jar is filled with foam from the whipped egg whites... So it's only a 1 serving drink. Too expensive for this drink. Also the pizza is too expensive. I didn't eat anything here. It seems like it's an Expat Business with European/American prices for everything. Just because your clientele come from a wealthy country... DOESN'T mean that you need to overcharge us. We all don't have endless supplies of money.

RUS-KZ easy bordercrossing. It took us 1 hour.
When arriving in KZ, there are many possibilities to get insurance.
We payed 8880 Tenge (20€) for 15 days, 2 drivers in a Volkswagen van T4 at the first insurance company in the cafe right after the last border control.
You can pay with credit card or change money at the same door.
They also sell simcards (Beeline) for 600 Tenge (1,50€) incuding 2Gb of data and Social media (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram etc.) unlimited.

I have to add one more thing here... I mentioned to the woman in charge that 80% of the jar was foam from the egg whites and that the drink was really only for 1 person and therefore extremely expensive. She wasn't happy with the criticism. She isn't very nice at all... she simply wants tourists to pay and leave. So I walked over to a nearby restaurant called El Café De Bolívar and they poured me a larger and better Pisco Sour for only 10 Soles... this is how Pisco Sour should be.

Nice campground among the trees and close to the nearby lake. $20 a night, pit toilets, drinking water via one of 2/3 old school ground water pumps. No phone reception with Telus. Close-ish to walking trails 10km down the road

Very narrow road on a kind of dike, lot of vegetation but ok for a small van. Not much space to turn except at the fork were we camp. Lot of insects no mosquitoes in August. The spot is like in a middle of a marsh with many bird and waterfowl! Great spot for bird watching.
