Really nice place. Tomaskozler is totally wrong, don't listen to his comments. Water is not super hot but not cold at the same time, that's great for bathing and laundry. Very windy from south until 22pm (so wind protection didn't help). We stayed in refugio and had a very calm night. Great sunrise over salar with flamengos. Entel signal. Accessible for all kinds of vehicles. Nice and clean pit toilet.

Booth still in place with a big sign “caseta de cobro agua azul” trying time make it look official I guess. There was no rope to block us a few people shelter from the rain nearby (I guess that helped us!) we didn’t stop and paid our $40 pp fee at the official entrance.

Rudimentary, but practical, was able to park my Vanagon behind the gates and not worry about it during the hike. I was asked 100 pesos to park my van and stay there, 300 pesos for the guide and 50 entry fees (new prices attached in photo. I lowered it down to 400. Guide picked me up at 4am, we arrived at the location at 5.30am and waited for Sunrise for an hour in the dark, freezing. Guide didn't know much about anything, but I was happy to inject $$ in this local community. Hopefully it helps them preserve this beautiful place.

Coming from Loreto the last 20 km of this Road to San Jose de Comundo are strenous and rocky. High Clearance and 4x4 needed. The rough desert with its fields of boulders is beautiful. From Loreto to San Jose you will need around 5-6 hours, last 42 km is dirt road. In between the heavy and rocky passages there is spaces where you can camp.

Beautiful, green and friendly Oasis in a Canyon in the middle of the desert. Church was closed when we arrived in the evening. You can buy fresh mild goat cheese at the door right of the "Tienda Comunitario". Coming from Loreto the last 20 km of this Road to San Jose de Comundo are strenous and rocky. The altitude of this place is not 3.937ft, it should be under 1.000ft.

Place at the small Road at the river under Palm trees. We ask several locals if it is ok to camp here and they said yes. Traffic at daylight, everybody greeting friendly. The River is a only a small stream, Area might be flooded in rainy season. There is no cell signal.

Cute little church, but weird atmosphere in this abandoned village... A lot of trash everywhere.

Seems like a nice place BUT if you want to have a good night sleep we really DON'T RECOMMEND staying here! We were woken up by the Carabineros at midnight, they said it's a dangerous place and we have to come to sleep in the police station parking lot! And they knocked again on our door at 7 AM to leave...
Good place for a break anyway, nice view on the mountains, lots of lamas around, cute little church.

Probably the best place to stay in Colchane. The carabineros chased us from the "old church" spot. The toilets were open and free (no one when we were there) but a there's no door anymore and no water in the sink.

Good for the night but make sure you don't leave any trash! There's privat property and the owner told us he has to pick up all the left behind garbage. He'd be okay with people camping there if it wasn't for the trash left behind.

Fuel station is open. We were able to fill up our 4x4 with diesel. Both Diesel & Petrol were available when were there. We chatted to a local resident of the area. The filling station has been under new management since mid 2019 and fuel supply has been excellent since.

I talked with the construction crews and they are building a road along the length of the lake to replace the ferry that used to operate here. They said it will open in 5 years at time of entry which will be May 2026. should be a great road once open.
