Nice quiet spot. Police came at 5pm to ask us if everything was alright. We asked if we could sleep there , they answered yes at our own risk, but they said it was safe normally. Someone put some poles on the entrance way, we slept in front of them, 60m from the palapa.

Beautiful road with scenic views. Very steep uphill when you come from San Francisco. Narrow curves may be a bit of a challenge for big rigs.

You can still see that the road wasn’t in a bad condition, but recent rains have done serious damage. It looks like people have themselves done some repaires with rocks, but these are impossible to pass with a normal car. High clearance is needed. They will probably do some proper repaires soon.

This is a quiet and wonderful place to stay in Otavalo. Matilde and Jose are very friendly and helpfull owners. Jose knows a lot about natural medicin and helped us a lot! We felt very save and welcome.

Parking behind/in front of the tourist info. There's excellent wifi (perfect connecting if you are in your camper) and toilets inside the building which is open from 9:00 to 20:00. We parked behind the house for wind protection.

Good hostel, room for 2 for 250 pesos or dorm beds for 120 pesos per person. Hot shower, very good place in the city.
The only negative point is that the people working there are a bit unfriendly and started to clean the floors in the entrance and reception area at 6 am, so we woke up at 6...

But I think you can ask them to start cleaning a bit later...:)

Is it the nicest spot? No of course not, but it’s nice enough. Paved and dirt lots at the end of the road with a restaurant and playground. There were people swimming and some dogs but all friendly. Showers and toilets available.

Beer is good especially artisanal one .. I mean with usual local beers ..
but the exception has à counterpart.. pricing is high .. 20 Bol for a pint or half liter .. you must be keen of having a different beers.. twice the price of the local one.

The place should be noisy to spend one overnight as I was there they were building a stage ..

Amazing place !!! We were alone in the middle of no where ❣️ we heard hélicoptère till late night because of the military base close by but not a problem. People before us leave a lot of trash that we clean up so Please !! Be respectful to others and bring your garbage back with you. The road to come here is not made for big rig.

No comparing this one with Panda Rest camp: this camp is very personal, with a camping spot almost like a wild camp. Friendly and helpfull owner, smal swimming pool, bar and water hole. Panda is bigger, with electricity and all, but when we looked very empty and lots of building activities. Depends on what you like. This one is 50 pula pp, Panda 120 pp.

A few reasons why we didn't stay:

- horrendous amounts of trash (used diapers!!)
- parking lot is less than 30 m from the ruta 40 and there is full visibility
- there are two electricity lines right over the parking that make noise in the wind
- and even more trash

The pools are beautiful and there is a lot of water mid March. But did not take a bath due to the trash.

We arrived here heading south midday after a massive storm the day before. Got 1km onto the rough road and one tiny bit off the middle of the road and BAM slipped down into the ditch. We've got aggressive tyres and the mud stuck so good we had four clumps instead of tyres. Three others stuck around us, a 4x4 bus pulled us out but by 5pm after a day of sunshine people were making it through in normal vans. The locals said it can take 2 days to clear up. You'd probably be OK with 4wd as you can boot it and spin up the wheels clearing the clumps. Maybe...
