This was off a beautiful campsite. Right on the lake with amazing views and the sound of the water lapping at the shore all night. It was quite a bit of dirt and gravel road to get there but it was worth it. The sites are pretty far apart so it feel private. There were two other groups there camping and I still felt we had privacy. Sunset, sunrise and the moon over the lake were breathtaking. There were porta potties and trash cans and one bar of verizon service.

This is one of the better urban Boondocking places I’ve been to. The freeway is close but you can’t hear it at night unless outside. Lots of owls and coyotes at night. A nice wooded hill in the back. No traffic.

3 bars on T-Mobile with decent data speeds
Room for the dog to sniff
Big curl-de-sac to turn around a large rig in with trailer
Nice hills to look at while drinking your morning coffee or tea

The road is closed because it’s no longer safe for vehicles. If you walk past the gate and peer over the edge into the canyon you’ll see dozens of cars littering the base of the cliff. That said hiking or biking is very easy and safe. Not much for shade so go on a cool day. Also, no parking close to gate.

Street parking near apartment complexes. Legal parking from 1700-0900 monday - friday, weekends, and holidays. Plenty of other cars to blend in with. Decently quiet for a being so close to a bustling commercial district.

This park is open to overnight camping again. However, it is very popular because of the pandemic (and because it's a gorgeous area). Reservations are required for camping.

Sites are currently $32 plus a $9.50 "reservation fee".

Be aware that this location can be VERY windy!

There was myself and one other van in the "tents only" Miwok section. Both of us were with tent campers, but no one bothered us about actually staying in our vans. Similarly, there is a no hammock rule that no one seemed to enforce.

We spent a night here and would definitely recommend it! We didn’t have any problem getting our promaster down to the end of the road. The washboard wasn’t the worse we have seen and wouldn’t keep us from returning. We had mediocre Verizon service but good T-Mobile. If you keep going on the main dirt road there seems to be a lot more side trails with good spots.

Nice quiet place. Was easy to access in our promaster. There are also a lot of good spots east 10-15 miles but we were happy to be a bit lower down as it was pretty cold.

We stayed here for one night after asking the owner of the property if we could stay the night. He was super kind, offered us sugarcane and pipa and let us stay there quietly. The road goes down to the river which is really nice, camping (with your car) would be recommended a little higher up on a level part of the road. The river gets higher fast when it rains so it’s not recommended to sleep down at the river.

We really liked the place and you don’t hear much of the road. You mostly hear the river and jungle sounds ❤️. Oh and there seems to be howlers living in the trees above, which is nice and fun!

The river here seems to be not suitable for swimming because there’s a strong current. We played in the water though, building dams and such :)

Potable water hose by the gas pumps. Under the flag pole. This is not the one at the dog park which was not working. This is separate. Has a hose already connected.

Now Q50pp entrance, Q15 to park and Q15 to camp. Lovely and quiet, fireflies etc. Fine getting up to the camp spot in RWD Astro, in dry weather, good brake test coming down!

Lots of people camp down by the lake; there must have been 30 or 40 people overnighting there on a Saturday night (might have been busier than usual as it was the weekend before Semana Santa). I hiked up to the mirador for sunrise, along the rim to the 'costa sur' mirador and down the shorter non-stairs path to the lake - there was frost on the ground and the campers looked absolutely frozen; take good kit if you do! At this time of year the mist comes in around 10am and stays till just before sunset, nice and ethereal! Be warned though I had a hat on all day and it was misty for most, but I still got very burnt - sun is fierce at this altitude even through cloud!

Beautiful! We arrived at around 10:30pm on a Friday night, tons of open spots along the road. We parked behind another van and could see several vans ahead, as well. A little road noise, but once we fell asleep it was completely fine and didn’t wake up once until morning. The views in the morning are simply breathtaking, all ocean. Great little walking path that is heavily trafficked and easy access to town, food, coffee, etc. Hopefully this doesn’t close or become restricted. We plan to stay again.

Really nice free BLM campground at the trailhead for Laguna Mountain. Though the first-come, first-served campground was full when we arrived, we found roadside camping on BLM land that was quieter than the campground. Great 2.5 mile hike to a beautiful 50 foot waterfall.

Found this on google and took a shot. Nice and flat. A few spots left when we pulled in that never filled up. Only a few cars stayed the night. Never bothered. Lots of cool restaurants and bars starting one block down. Very loud at night, but it was apparently spring break
