Paid 30 soles for twin room. Basic but clean. Shower looks a bit grim but it was actually hot which was a nice surprise!

Basic double room cost 20 soles. Private bathroom but not hot water. Our room looked out onto the school bus river but had no curtains! Nowhere was open for dinner in the evening so we cooked in the room.

Made the trek to the trailhead of the lake and it wasn't SO bad we don't have 4x4... but have a higher clearance Nissan Frontier so we were able to get up and down but it was totally dry.... it wouldn't have been doable if we had any rain. As for the lake it's a nice hike up... mostly up hill until you get to the sign for the mirador... the lake is a very peaceful and spiritual place but it's not for swimming. Pack a lunch and enjoy!

A MUST! it is located in kind of a drive way, we almost didnt find it. They mainly do the baking here, but you can also buy everything. It's freakin hot in there, since its all in just one garage. The stuff was cheap and delicious, the staff super happy to have some Tourists. Go there!

FREE Wildlife Management Area campground - must get a "permit" at the self check-in kiosk at the entrance but super easy. Porta-potties, boat launch, great kayaking and fishing, fire rings and picnic tables. Pet friendly and really quiet even on a Friday night.

Fantastic value at less than $11 per night without breakie - for the money, the rooms are beyond fantastic, would be worth $30+ anywhere else

Great spot for overnight just in front of an Amazing Stone conformation. place for every kind of rig. No facilities, no water but you can enjoy the Nature and the evolution of our world. Here there is an old overlander parked with his old saviem 4x4 that actually work as guardian. really good person. enjoy

Camp in the bush, hidden from the road, quite at night, there is a water fountain near bye for animals - guess not drinkable but good for washing dishes. Space for 2- 3 cars, also possible for big rigs. Watch out for the bushes with thorns. Free.

Locals told us this is the best place in town with a strong/fast WiFi. And indeed it is no PW required. I uploaded a movie with 500MB in a very short time and did a large update on my computer) Further you can buy fresh bread, good ice cream and pizzas to go or you can have a whole menue there (which is quite a good deal) Place is quite populare with locals and is therefore very busy. Parking in the street (safe) Recommended.

Several shops where they produce and sell the typical chilean straw huts. They show you how they collect the raw material and the way they prepare it to produce the different huts. (only women do it and give their knowledge to their daughter) Price depends on the quality. For a fine woven hut a women works for 15 to 20 days. You can buy from clp 7'000 up to clp 60'000. Recommended.

Only campground we were able to find open along this stretch beginning of May. Drop toilet was also open. Track was extremely muddy with a fair amount of snow at the bottom. Our 2WD van struggled!

(We were 3 bikes and one 4x4). Deep sand. Motorbikes will suffer/not make it. 4x4 not easy as well. We drove just after heavy rainfall which was good because the sand was less thin but we had to cross several deep water crossings (30-100cm). Sette Cama lovely little village. Everybody was friendly and we camped for free. Bring everything you need, there is only a small shop with basic expensive tin cans. You can see elephants, turtles, hippos, etc. Very nice place indeed to stay a day or 3.

Budget hotel, 400/night single, 550/night double for no AC. Very basic accommodation but friendly staff. parking for bikes on a platform in front of the hotel, cars have room on the street in front. The owner owns a bike wash and car and bike mechanic shop next door, and they helped fix my flat tire.

Tea and coffee estate. Interesting place to visit. It is possible to take a guided tour (3,000 per person per hour), do tea tasting, enjoy tea and cake, drink cocktails or have lunch. There are also rooms and dinner options (but this is quite expensive!).
Note that for all of this you must book in advance, they do not generally allow people to just turn up.

Lodge with rooms and a campsite. We didn’t stay or even look at the camp as they told us US$15pppn, which is too expensive!

Large grassy campsite with terraces offering flat camping pitches under the shade of large trees (large enough to put up a rooftent under). Ablutions in a large bright and airy building, not immaculately clean by any means, but OK. Hot showers seem to be available when there isn’t a power cut. Under cover area available for cooking, etc. No braai facilities but the ever so friendly manager is so eager to please and to make you feel welcome that I’m sure he would do his utmost to accommodate any requests.
Only real downside is that it is in the heart of a busy urban area, so ear plugs are essential if you want any hope of sleeping!
Now MKW3,000 pppn. Still a good price and worth it if you need to stop over in Blantyre.

Checked this place out but did not feel very safe. Very close to town, and you are really visible from the road.
We asked the guard if it was safe and he didn't say yes he just told us there's a security guy at night, which wasn't really the answer we were looking for! lol
Moved on and went to the campground a few blocks away.

Nice and safe place to sleep in Sayaxche.
This is a restaurant with a big lush garden where you can park - there are a few level and shaded spots. OK for big rigs.
Owner is super nice - he welcomed us and suggested a few places around town to see.
Toilets were OK and cold shower with lots of pressure was very good in such a hot climate.
He also lent us an extension cord to plug in our van, though voltage was not great and going up and down a bit. Not a problem but we couldn't run our AC for example, though laptops were OK.
Really quiet at night - street is close by but not much traffic. We paid 50Q.

Nice small camground. We arrived in the dark so had to knock on the front door. No problem at all though. Friendly owner who explained us what there is to see around the area. 5,000 colones for one night. Shower, toilet and little washing area available.
