In a park, in front of the Mexicain Gulf, there are pergolas, trash bins and fire place. You can camp on those spots for free, very calm and the salty water smell is there. Enjoy

Secluded spot 100 m away from the track and surrounded by hills.
You need 4x4 to get there.
Also possible for big trucks.
Walk to the top of the hill and enjoy the view for the sunset or sunrise.

Quiet enough parking to sleep, much more quiet than the nearby Home Depot.

We were looking for a good place with WiFi as the other decent campsites providing this service were closed. Highlights here are definitely the big private pool with fresh and clear water and with lazy chairs as well as the fast WiFi in the seating corner. Showers (cold) and toilets are clean with toilet paper. Well equipped kitchen. Very friendly owner and manager. Very helpful too. Owner speaks very well English. We could park in the backyard on a kind of a parking lot, which they are going to upgrade to a real campsite with extra water taps, some shade etc. Electricity available. Big rigs might have an issue to get in. Problem could be length/width, not height. Our camper is 6m by 2m and it wasn’t a problem. 5000 pp. all included. On Sunday there is some military shooting exercise behind the campsite. Not sure if that causes any discomfort.

Big gravel place with nice view above lake, mountain and forests, and a shelter with a table where you can cook and eat protected from the rain. We stayed one night it was very quiet although it’s close from the road. Not suitable for tents.

After 6 months in South America this place is exactly what we needed. Great Aussie menu for breaky. ( inc smashed avo and big breaky) bit pricey even amongst the gringo places but was well worth it! The whole menu actually looked delicious but after indulging in breaky it’s back to cheap food for us.
Plenty of staff, helpful and spoke English. They even had free table water !

This place actually belongs to one of the faculties at the University of Guatemala. The admission of Q.5 is for entering the swimming area. On the other side of the road they have toilets and even showers. Parking is right at the side of the road. Staying overnight was no problem at all. Few cars during the night. We can recommend this place, nothing special but good for 1-2 nights before/after heading to Tikal.

Nice place for a night, friendly people, a pool (perfect for this temperatures), also a restaurant is there. Safe parking as well, your are alone during night, but they close the gate! We payed 30.000 for overnight and entrance to the swimming pool. Nearby are many horses, and if you are lucky, you can watch them train for a special event. We enjoyed staying over night, and also had good dinner and a beer.

Basic hostel in small town. Can inquire at the restaurant by the sign. You will see the sign from the road. Nothing fancy. 50 soles per night for 2 people, one bed. No wifi. Our hot water did not work.

F**k this was complicated to get out of Mexico, especially with the Vehicule Importation Permit.

1. Don’t cross the bridge if you don’t have you’re money from the deposit.
2. If you’re in the right lanes, you are already wrong.
3. Don’t enter the right lanes, take the further left, and pass next to the small white cabin. Peal off your sticker permit. Give the paper to the random guy working in that cabin.
4. Park your car after that.
5.
- Bring that paper with the bill he gave to you,
- bring the receipt for the deposit of the permit (200$ to 400$),
- bring your Passport or an actual copy of your passport (5 pesos for a copy inside), don’t thrown your money on the counter,
- bring your FMM,
- bring patience.
6. Go inside the building.
7. You know the rest for paperworks, Insituto de migracion for the FMM and Banjercito for the Vehicul Permit.
8. Cross the bridge, you can pay US $ or MXP, no card accepted.

As described before - super
friendly guard! We were also allowed to sleep inside next to the restrooms :) only the dogs were a little annoying barking in the middle of the night. Place with lots of history!

We asked the staff of the petrol station if we can put the tent here under the parking roof. They said yes. It was quite noisy during the night. The plus is we had wifi, not in the tent, we had to go closer to the petrol station and we had also toilets, still quite noisy. Also no shade in the afternoon, only after 19h when the sun went down. Not a perfect spot at all but if you don't have other option it will do forcone night, it is also safe place to spend the night.

Very nice place. We spend a very good night there. Insted of the people who are working and going to shop, it’s so calm and quiety. The better wild camping that we made until now.

$5 to camp in the ‘jailhouse’ - an old wooden shack with 2 rooms, a table and bench. Nothing special but fun and a useful place to get out of the wind and rain if the weather is bad. Some soft drinks and beer are sold across the road if needed.

Rough corrogated road in but still suitable for large rigs. Spent one night here. A few other campers around. Very safe and quiet.
